Sunday March 26 — Show and Workshops from Cirque Us

Cirque Us from Boston, MA is touring their original circus show, One Man’s Trash, and we’re lucky to be one of the tour stops!  They will perform at our studio on Sunday March 26, and several cast members will lead workshops following the show.

About Cirque Us: Since its founding in 2016, Cirque Us has grown into a notable contemporary circus companies. Its eight original members quite literally stitched a show together with recycled materials and old car tires. Since then, Cirque Us has continued to produce original, full-length circus shows, alongside educational camps and workshops for people of all ages and abilities. About the show: “One Man’s Trash” is back for its third national tour. With the limitless spirit of circus, this cast reanimates all that’s left in trash cans or garages to highlight the power of community. The performance’s playful nature proves what we’re all capable of–together through a pass of a juggling club or leap of an acrobat. The inventive acrobats, high-flying aerialists, and quirky clowns are bursting to welcome you into their world.

About the Workshops:

6:30-8:00 PM DYNAMIC FABRIC WITH TYLER: Participants at the fabric workshop can expect a focus on c-shaping and dynamic work, beginning with the necessary technique and conditioning to safely execute skills such as rollups, rolldowns, beats, and an introduction to release moves.
Artist Bio: Tyler Jacobson is a multidisciplinary circus artist from southern California. Tyler was most recently seen on stage with Cirque Dreams and the newly-debuted Pomp, Snow, & CIRQUEumstance, though he also fondly remembers his days as a monster at Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor. In addition to his acrobatic abilities, Tyler is also an academic nerd, holding an MA in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University, and he can usually be found pursuing too many side projects at once.

6:30-8:00 PM DYNAMIC TRAPEZE WITH DOUG: This trapeze workshop offers an introduction to dynamic work beginning with the necessary technique and conditioning to safely execute dynamic skills, with the intent to move into things such as circles forward and back, drops to ankles, beats, twists, etc.
Artist Bio: Doug Stewart graduated from the New England Center for Circus Arts and has worked for Circus Smirkus, Chicago’s Midnight Circus, Diamond Family Circus, AIDA Cruises, Live305Entertainment, Westchester Circus Arts, Cirque Dreams and Cirque Us. Doug holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business of Live and Performing Arts with a concentration in Touring Productions from Columbia College Chicago.

8:00-9:00 PM GERMAN WHEEL WITH JEREMY: Come roll around with Jeremy Cifonie in this 1.5 hour German Wheel workshop. Artist Bio: Jeremy Cifonie’s circus career started while attending university to become an English teacher. He spent years juggling the classroom each day and circus each night until eventually making the jump to full time circus work in 2022– and he hasn’t looked back. Jeremy has performed with Cirque Us, Westchester Circus Arts, Bindlestiff Family Circus, The Vampire Circus and Cirque Dreams.
